Getting Started

The short version of how MythSmith works, and how to get your first adventure moving.

What is MythSmith?

MythSmith is an AI storytelling RPG. You write what your character does — or says, or just what happens next — and the AI plays game master, answering in real time and keeping the world consistent as you go. Nothing past your opening line is pre-written.

How do I take a turn?

Type into the input box and choose how you want it read: Do describes an action your character takes, Say is dialogue, and Story lets you write a beat of narration directly, including instructions like “introduce an enemy with fire powers.” The AI picks up from there. You can also type /do, /say, or /story at the start of a line to switch modes, and undo or redo a turn if the story goes somewhere you didn't want.

Do I need to create a character first?

Most adventures start with a short character setup — name, race or background, class, personality, backstory — so the AI has something to build around. MythSmith also tracks a full character sheet as you play: health, mana, XP, level, inventory, equipment, and conditions, so your choices carry real mechanical weight, not just narrative flavor.

Where do I start my first adventure?

From the Discover tab, pick a scenario the community already built, or start a blank one and write your own opening in a couple of lines — MythSmith fills in the geography, the factions, and everyone who lives there from there.

Can I play without an account?

You can look around and try a story as a guest, but a guest's progress isn't saved — leave the game and it's gone. Create an account first and everything you play is kept.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Multiplayer Adventures run from a lobby: the host shares an eight-digit join code, friends enter it, and everyone writes into the same story. The host can generate a new code any time, which retires the old one. You can rename your character mid-game from the flame icon on the game screen.

Is there anything to install before I can play?

No — play instantly from the browser. The iOS and Android apps are there if you'd rather play on the go; see Download for links.
