Companion Update

Cover art for Companion Update

Companions are live for Mythic. A companion is an NPC who travels with your character permanently — not a summoned pet, not a scripted party member, but someone the storyteller keeps a persistent thread on across the whole campaign.

You set them up once: a name, a personality, a reason they're traveling with you. From there, the AI decides how they react to what you do, and it remembers. Cross a companion early in a story and don't be surprised if they bring it up forty turns later, at a worse time than you'd like.

Companions draw on the same memory system as the rest of your world, which means they hold up over long campaigns the way everything else does post-Loremaster — they won't forget a promise you made to them just because a dozen other scenes happened since.

This is a Mythic-tier feature because a companion who's actually being tracked scene to scene, rather than just decorating the sidebar, uses meaningfully more of the memory and context budget than a world without one — which is also why it's paired with Mythic's 200 memory slots and full 32k context window.

One companion per world for now. We're watching how people use this before deciding whether a second one earns its keep.

Part game. Part storytelling. All yours.
